50 Shades of Grey

(aired 2/6/15)
50 Shades of Grey

The Fifty Shades of Grey erotic romance trilogy series by E L James is one of the of the biggest-selling series in publishing history, selling more than 100 million copies worldwide, translated into 52 languages. It seized the media spotlight when its first movie version was released last month. Many specific songs are referenced throughout the chapters, so I decided to feature 50 Shades as a theme for this episode of my show. My playlist consists of songs that were all referenced somewhere in the book trilogy or from the film soundtrack.

I’m not endorsing 50 Shades as a die-hard fan or anything. Take what you like and leave the rest. My focus is on the music, not on the bleh literary quality of the text or the stereotypical sex roles it represents (although I did take the opportunity to briefly talk about some of the hot topics briefly during my show). Note: For an entertaining collection of opinions from sex-positive activists, porn producers, authors, educators and professional polyamorists, visit this web page!

Enjoy this trip into my playroom…

The Dandy Warhols

Every once in awhile I like to do a themeless show. It gives me a chance to share a range of music I’ve been appreciating lately – without necessarily having a common trait in the titles or topic matter.

During the last half of this show I had the pleasure of a visit from my friend Chris Johnson, former host of The Afternoon Bump on KSKQ. He shared several unique song selections. See what you think…

  1. Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
  2. Our Lips Are Sealed (acoustic) – Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s
