Thanksgiving Feast

(aired 11/26/10)

Yesterday was a celebration of family and feast. Last year my show during Thanksgiving week was Gratitude, with a range of songs to honor being thankful. What would be a fitting topic this year?

Lately the “Black Friday” message has been flashed at us from many commercials, making me remember I’d covered the color Black two weeks ago, while Friday was a focus in my Weekend show last April. This holiday is also known as a time to unite families, but you can already hear past shows about Moms, Dads, Sisters and Brothers.

This year I decided to go for the key element of how Thanksgiving is celebrated: the meal. I was inspired by a show featured recently on National Public Radio called Songs for Stuffing: A Thanksgiving Mix. Looking at their playlist and hearing the music, I picked out a number of yummy goodies to share on Maya’s Mix today. As they point on on their page, “Whether you’re having turkey, turducken, tofurkey or fish tacos, the family is together, and that’s what important. So here’s a mix designed to help you keep your mind on the bonding-fueled feast that justifies it all.”

Happy Thanksgiving to all! May you fix yourself some leftovers to eat while you listen to this tasty show…
