(aired 6/11/10)

My dear younger sister Phoebe is turning 31 years old next Tuesday, June 15th. To celebrate her birthday, this week’s show is dedicated to sisters. She made me an awesome mix last Christmas featuring songs that all have the word “sister” in the titles. I’ve been waiting to play it for a show, and today felt perfect. Every song below is from Phoebe’s mix, except for the ones marked with a star (*).

Hearing the songs also gave me appreciation for the other examples of supportive sisterhood I see in my life. Lynn, Lisa, Lori and Lana (my mom and 3 aunts) demonstrate the beautiful strength of sister unity. I especially want to send Lana lots of love for her courage right now.

Ready to hear some singin’ about sisters? Happy Birthday, Phoebe! I’m so lucky to have you as my sister.
