Dad Tribute

(aired 3/5/10)

Although I was originally intending to do a brand new theme this week, some unexpected circumstances have changed the plans. My dear father, John Seligman, had a heart bypass surgery yesterday, March 4th. I’m happy to report that it went well. To express love and support, today Maya’s Mix is a similar lineup to the Father show playlist that aired last June — with only a couple changes and new songs.

The best highlight was having my sister, Phoebe, join me in the studio for the broadcast. Together we celebrated my dad’s recovery with fun music. Thank you to everyone in his life for creating such positive support. We can now celebrate the beginning of a healing process towards a happy, healthy heart!

  1. Daddy’s Arms – Hank Dogs
  2. Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone – The Temptations [suggested by Derek Keevil and Joshua Geesaman]
  3. Gone Daddy Gone – Gnarls Barkley
  4. Shimmy Shakin’ Daddy – Rose & The Maddox Brothers
  5. O Pai A MÃ¥e – Madrinha Sonia [suggested by John Seligman]
  6. Old Man – The Wailin’ Jennys [suggested by Anjali Altman, for Neil Young version]
  7. Cats In the Cradle – 3rd Bass [suggested by Rob Brooks]
  8. Gospel with No Lord – Camille
  9. Another Brick In the Wall, Pt. 1 – Pink Floyd [suggested by Mark Mezadourian and Ben Hudson]
  10. Momma, Where’s My Daddy – Keb’ Mo’
  11. Papa Was a Rodeo – Bright Eyes
  12. Person Person – Mirah
  13. Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag – James Brown [suggested by Derek Keevil]

Lovely theme (no pun intended!). BTW “Chapin” has a correct pronunciation, as found at Name: Chapin at Inogolo.I just tuned in about 1/2 hour ago, and will catch up with the online stream later. My Dad loomed large in my life, and I miss him (lived to 91). Your Dad is now in the same club as Clinton and Letterman, but participation is optional. 🙂

The Seligman sisters are very charming.
