Honoring Veterans

(aired 11/15/13)
The Jungleman

Veteran’s Day was on Monday, November 11, 2013. It’s an official holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. I give credit to Lonnie Chance for providing all the song suggestions for this show. He has compiled a long list of songs that are specifically dedicated to those who have served as veterans.

Lonnie himself has a CD called The Jungleman, which he created in the spirit of healing. (Visit www.thejungleman.com to see it.) His songs recount his life-changing experiences as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpmen attached to the Third Marine Division In Vietnam.  He was decorated with the Combat Action Ribbon, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star with a Combat V for Valor.

My playlist today spans various eras and styles. My intention is to honor the individual veterans throughout history and offer an expression of the respect they deserve. Note that everyone has their own beliefs about war and patriotism. I offer today’s show in complete objectivity regarding politics and national identity. The show covers a spectrum of issues related to my theme of Veteran’s Day.

If you yourself are a veteran and need support (or you know someone who does), call the Veterans Crisis Line: 800-273-8255. You can also visit a VA facility for help. Thank you to all those who’ve served for us.
