The Letter C

(aired 10/12/12)

Letter C

Almost  exactly 1 year ago I did a show that featured songs all starting with the letter S. Earlier that year I’d enjoyed focusing on the letter M. The letter F started this fun tradition in February 2010. (Looking back through my notes I also realized that we’d brainstormed songs starting with the letter U a couple years ago, but I ended up concentrating solely on two particular words: Under and Up.) This week I decided it was time to continue with another chapter, this time looking at the letter C.

This theme actually emerged in an unexpected way. Addictions had been on my mind recently, and it occurred to me that a lot of my own vices actually happen to start with the letter C. I’m not actually going to divulge my own personal specifics, but here’s a brainstorm of various elements starting with the letter C that can be addictive: cocaine, crack, cannabis, cigarettes, cocktails, coffee, caffeine, colas, cookies, crackers, candy, chips, carbs, calorie counting, cardiovascular charge of exercise, computer games & computer porn, codependency, compliments & care from others, compulsive cleaning, crime, cards & coins in gambling, collecting cars (classics & clunkers), cocks, clits, condoms, cuckold, centerfolds, creampie, coming, climaxes, control, cable/communications industry, coaxing a certain someone’s charm & charisma – these are ALL compulsions. Now what? Use control and close it cold turkey, cut the chain, call it a day, choke the cords, crack the code to curb it, cease the craziness!

Thus I feature a sub-theme for this show, with two specific sets of songs focusing on elements that can be seen as related to addictions in some form (songs #14-22 below). Other than that, the theme is specifically just songs starting with the letter C. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions! Perhaps I’ll do a second chapter of this same theme for my next show…
