Honoring Veterans

(aired 11/15/13)
The Jungleman

Veteran’s Day was on Monday, November 11, 2013. It’s an official holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. I give credit to Lonnie Chance for providing all the song suggestions for this show. He has compiled a long list of songs that are specifically dedicated to those who have served as veterans.

Lonnie himself has a CD called The Jungleman, which he created in the spirit of healing. (Visit www.thejungleman.com to see it.) His songs recount his life-changing experiences as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpmen attached to the Third Marine Division In Vietnam.  He was decorated with the Combat Action Ribbon, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star with a Combat V for Valor.

My playlist today spans various eras and styles. My intention is to honor the individual veterans throughout history and offer an expression of the respect they deserve. Note that everyone has their own beliefs about war and patriotism. I offer today’s show in complete objectivity regarding politics and national identity. The show covers a spectrum of issues related to my theme of Veteran’s Day.

If you yourself are a veteran and need support (or you know someone who does), call the Veterans Crisis Line: 800-273-8255. You can also visit a VA facility for help. Thank you to all those who’ve served for us.

Best Covers of 2013

(aired 2/7/14)

The Gregory Brothers

For my first two shows of this year I featured the best songs of 2013. I’ve now decided to dedicate a full show to the best 2013 covers. Last year a number of artists dished out their own refreshing and interesting versions of existing songs (old and new).

If you like covers, check out the fun show I did back in June 2011 called Covers: One Degree of Separation. I chose a particular order, since the original of each song was done by the artist preceding him/her on the playlist.

Another past show was all covers of Beatles songs. I did a similar show of Michael Jackson covers. One show was a tribute to Bob Dylan, with covers of his songs. There was a show of cover songs all with LOVE in the title. And another simply of good covers.

Enjoy these recent goodies!
