Best of 2013

best of 2014

Part 1

(aired 1/3/14)

Every new year I enjoy looking back at the music that came out the previous year, compiling a list my faves. What songs really grabbed me? What new artists did I discover? What albums really floated my boat? Another fun element is gathering up songs that have interesting stories; they may have gotten public attention for reasons other than “best” quality sound — but still worth talking about.

This time I ended up exploring many websites, blogs and magazines to appraise which 2013 songs would make the cut. I had such a long final list that I broke it up into two shows. Here is part one:

Bob Fisher’s Picks

Bob Fisher

(aired 1/17/14)

Occasionally I have the honor of dedicating a whole show to a listener’s song picks. This episode features my uncle Bob Fisher — husband of my real maternal aunt Lana. (Bob is second from the left in this post’s photo, taken in 1971.) The playlist was chosen from his large library. I really enjoyed exploring such a collection of captivating music — many of which are from past decades. Bob was basically a co-host from afar, since I also included segments of a recorded conversation we had together about his entertaining adventures in the music scene as a teen growing up in Los Angeles.
