Big Beautiful Women

(aired 3/22/13)
BBW

This show is an appreciation of a particular female body type: voluptuous, curvy, big. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many songs through various eras and genres that honor the beauty of the heavy physical form. My hope is women can transcend media’s warped ideals in order to feel comfortable in their own bodies, no matter what size.

As Candye Kane sings, “I like to sing the virtues of a big girl. Because I never did see myself or women like me on the cover of Cosmo or Vanity Fair. I only saw myself on the cover of Plumpers and Big Women and Hefty Mamas. But my message to you is: you’ve got to love your body, love yourself, and love everyone else’s body if you get the chance. It works for me, baby. And while you’re at it, work what you got – whether it’s a little or a lot. Just work what you got. And love what you’ve got, cuz it’s yours.”
