Lower Body

(aired 5/29/09)

lower body

My original plan was to use the full body as a theme for one show, but I got so many requests and song ideas from other people that it made sense to cover it in two weeks, with a part I and part II. Thus the first week (5/29), available below, was devoted to the lower body — toes to tummy — and the second week (6/5) featured songs for all the other body parts above the waist.

This show was an important learning experience for me to recognize the boundaries of suitability for daytime broadcasting. I now know that the content of this show should have been saved for airing after 10pm, due to the adult content of some songs’ lyrics. But the show still upheld the basic policy that “KSKQ believes that music or statements with viewpoints that glorify or accept negative words or actions towards others with no socially redeeming values should not be aired.”

As much as I will uphold principles to stay within the FCC’s regulations, I also am sad to see that our culture classifies body parts as inappropriate. Don’t we all have ’em? Feel free to let me know if you have any opinions. I welcome feedback!

Note that there is an accidental pause before the first song in the set, but realize that it won’t last forever. 😉

Sweet Songs

sweets(aired 5/15/09)

For my second week on the air I compiled a list of sweet songs, with references to sugar, honey, candy, honey, lollipop, etc. This theme is kind of ironic, since I have a sugar-free diet and I don’t actually EAT any sweets myself — so instead I get to HEAR them!

Mothers

(aired 5/8/09)

mother

My first broadcast of a radio show on KSKQ! It was the weekend of Mother’s Day, so the topic seemed appropriate — finding a mix of songs with “mom,” “mama,” “mother,” etc. in the title or lyrics. My own mom arrived in Ashland that day for a visit, so I sprung it as a surprise, taking her to the studio with me and dedicating the show to her. (Note: the first few minutes of the show unfortunately weren’t recorded, when I told everyone how much I love Mom and why she’s so great. Darn!) I also acknowledged the other great mother figures in my life at several points in the program. Try to ignore the “um”s, since that word easily rolled off my tongue during this initial show!

Here’s the playlist:

  1. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
  2. Mama You’ve Been On My Mind – Jack Johnson
  3. Mother Mother – Tracy Bonham [suggested by Jayne]
  4. Mother – John Lennon [suggested by Joshua Geesaman]
  5. Sweet Mother – Prince Nico Mbarga
  6. Mama Says It’s Naughty – Rose & The Maddox Bros
  7. Everyday Is Like Mother’s Day – Shirley Caesar [dedicated to Mimi, Toni, SueZ and Laura/Mani]
  8. Decatur, Or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! – Sufjan Stevens
  9. Mother – Tori Amos
  10. Mama Said There’d Be Days Like This – Shirelle [suggested by Krista & Jess, as well as Chris Woods]
  11. Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth – Neko Case [suggested by Sarah Kowalski]
  12. Mother and Child Reunion – Paul Simon [suggested by Chris Woods]
  13. I Got It From My Mama – Will.I.Am
  14. Mama You Sweet – Lucinda Williams [suggested by Sarah K.]
  15. Children Of One Mother – Pele Juju
  16. Mamma Mia – ABBA [dedicated to the Hoye/Olsen family, with congratz to Noli and appreciation for Kathie]
