On Wednesday, July 16, the Medford Communications Advisory Committee will hold its
meeting in City Council Chambers, at 411 W. 8th. The Committee convenes quarterly
for the purpose of resolving issues that individuals may have with city employees or
agencies.

Janet Phelan, who is a talk show host with KSKQ and a reporter with The American’s
Bulletin, will be addressing the committee on issues surrounding allegations of
failure to protect concerning the Medford Police Department. Her written report
concerning a break-in at her Medford home went un-investigated by the department,
and the photographic evidence she provided the department has disappeared. A second
report concerning a stalker also was dismissed by the department without the PD
conducting an investigation.

Any allegations of failure to protect by any of us should be taken seriously by all
of us. The fact that Janet is a political reporter might up the ante, and could be
seen as a covert attack on the First Amendment, as well as on her personal security.

We are making a call to action and asking that all concerned residents show up the
Advisory committee meeting, to support Janet in her pursuit of “equal protection
under the law.” The meeting commences at 4 p.m.

We talk with David Fidanque, Executive Director of American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon.
