4-Letter Words (Part I)

(aired 4/27/12)

Every song on this show has a title of a 4-letter word. Don’t worry, since this was broadcast on a law-abiding station, the 7 naughty words were left out: darn, heck, slut, fart, butt, hell and crap. ;)

Thank you for all the song suggestions! You listeners gave me a rich list of choices.

Note: Unfortunately there seemed to be a technical glitch that caused the recording to be at higher audio levels than they should have been. Thus some pieces of the show don’t necessarily have ideal sound quality.

Themeless #8

(aired 12/16/11)

One-Eyed Doll

Here’s a compilation of songs I enjoyed sharing on this Maya’s Mix show. There is no theme. Just good music.

Note: During this show I had the pleasure of a guest appearance by Joe Hudgins (“The Real Joe”). He shared a public service announcement at one of the breaks, and we enjoyed brief dialogue on the air together. This show is dedicated to Joe, as his voice reflects his delightful humor and support of our station.

Turn Up the Volume… to 11!

(aired 11/11/11)

the

Because this show was broadcast on November 11, 2011, I decided to turn the volume way up — to 11!

There is a humorous scene from the 1984 movie, This Is Spinal Tap, which stretches common perceptions of stereo settings, introducing the notion of an additional notch in the volume control. Inspired by this idea, today’s songs have a loosely unifying theme. Some have volume-related words/phrases in the titles (loud, pump up, wound up, heights, bang, etc.); others have words related to the date; and others are just worth cranking up the volume to hear!

  1. clip: Let’s Get Loud – Jennifer Lopez

David Byrne’s Picks

(aired 11/4/11)

the

David Byrne has always been an inspiration to me, since my early kid days when I was bopping out to Talking Heads tunes. Over the years this talented musician has been involved in a range of creative projects. Since 2005 he has offered a recorded radio feed of diverse music on his website, www.DavidByrne.com, with a new focused theme each month. In listening, I’ve gotten exposed to a wide range of different styles and artists I wouldn’t have necessarily appreciated otherwise.

Numbers, Take 2

(aired 10/28/11)

numbers

I originally featured the topic of songs with numbers in the titles back in July 2009. Even though the order was in sequential order, from smallest (one) to largest (nine million), there were were still plenty of gaps. For today’s show, there are no missing numbers as we progress from one all the way to 33. Quite a feat! It’s all thanks to Derek Keevil, a mastermind listener who provided the majority of this playlist.

Note: Even though my live show made it all the way to 33, the recording of the show (which you can hear below) ended after #30. So I’ve included individual links to the last three songs to hear online.
