Ashland Oregon’s 7th annual Independent Media Week showcases a coalition of independent media producers, local activists and community groups organized around the theme “A well-informed citizenry is a cornerstone of democracy”

Running April 17th – 23rd, Independent Media Week is a grassroots campaign to inform and empower citizen by showcasing local efforts and to expand and inspire hyper-local media production.

History:

In April 2005, the City of Ashland officially proclaimed its first Independent Media Week. With a goal to broadcast “Democracy Now” citizen media activists launched KSKQ, our local low-power FM radio station, and brought Amy Goodman of “Democracy Now” to speak in Ashland. Every year since, a coalition of local independent media organizations have asked the City of Ashland to proclaim the 3rd week in April, “Independent Media Week” . This year the proclamation will be made at the April 5th City Council meeting.

Once again, media activists and community volunteers organized the week’s activities, and invited participation and attendance from all interested citizens and organizations. This year, our focus is on sustainability and preparing for emergency. Groups and individuals are invited to participate.
