We support the efforts of:

Prometheus
Radio Project

A special note about tuning in KSKQ-lp 94.9 fm:
Most home FM tuners / Receivers do not have external antennas attached because most FM radio stations
broadcast 5000 to 15,000 watts or more. We are only broadcasting at 60 watts at this time and we are not line of sight to Ashland.
That means our signal is bounced off the mountains across the freeway.
Please be patient with us as we baby step our way up to our allotted 100 watts very soon.
One possible way to receive our signal better it to attach any external antenna to your home FM receiver.
If you have an external, that would work even better.
You can buy antennas at radio shack from $3.50 to $39.99. thank you...KSKQ

Barry Chamish is Israel's most controversial writer. Ten years ago he claimed in his best-selling book,
"Who Murdered Yitzhak Rabin," that the prime minister was murdered in a coup within his own party, a
perception that is largely supported by the Israeli populace. The Israeli government's answer was to smear
Chamish with ugly web sites, rumors and violent accidents. Tired of the harassment and fearing for his life, Barry Chamish moved to Florida.
Chamish believes that a second holocaust is being engineered in Israel at this time and that soon Israel will cease to exist as we know it.
Chamish is the author of "The Fall of Israel," "Bye Bye, Gaza," "The Kennedys," and other books.
Chamish will be interviewed on "One If By Land," airing this Wednesday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
KSKQ broadcasts off 94.9 FM in the Ashland area, and also streams off the web at KSKQ.org.

9. “Whopper” Hike Series Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center June 21, Aug 16, Sept 20
In 2007, the Bureau of Land Management released a draft proposal called the Western Oregon Plan Revisions, also known as
WOPR, which would guide the management of 2.5 million acres of public forests in western Oregon. The WOPR would remove
these forests from the scientific framework of the Northwest Forest Plan. The agency’s preferred alternative calls for widespread
clearcutting, reduced stream and salmon buffers and a sevenfold increase in logging old-growth trees. In addition, the plan
proposes 13 OHV “emphasis areas” for southwest Oregon where motorized recreation would take priority over other uses. Join KS Wild for a hike to
Medford District BLM public lands that would be affected by this whopper of a plan.

June 21: Little Applegate Valley
Sterling Mine Ditch Trail, south of Jacksonville. This historic trail offers scenic views of the eastern Siskiyou Mountains.
This area was designated as an Adaptive Management Area under the Northwest Forest Plan, and under WOPR it is
proposed as a Timber Management Area. The trail is also in the proposed Anderson Butte Off-Highway Vehicle Emphasis Area.
Moderate-difficult, 7 miles roundtrip. Meet at the Ruch Market at 9am.

August 16: Moon Prairie, Indian Plateau
Visit a relic stand of old-growth east of Ashland. Moon Prairie is currently designated as an
“Area of Critical Environmental Concern” for its fish, wildlife, scenic and educational values.
The BLM would eliminate this designation under all proposed WOPR alternatives. Moderate, 4-5 miles. Meet at Shop ‘n Kart in Ashland at 9am.

September 20: Long Gulch, Applegate Valley
A one-way hike off-trail from the top of Long Gulch down the drainage of this trellised watershed that is home to one of the largest blocks of low
elevation old-growth in the Applegate. Local residents submitted a proposal under WOPR
to have the area designated as an “Area of Critical Environmental Concern,” but it was rejected.
This area was designated as an Adaptive Management Area under the Northwest Forest Plan, and under WOPR it is proposed
as a Timber Management Area, as well as an OHV Emphasis Area. Difficult, 3-4 miles. Meet at the Ruch Market at 9am.
Bring good hiking shoes, water, food and clothing layers. For more information, call 488-5789 or email lesley@kswild.org

First Nation Radio
Sunday 2pm-4pm First Nations Radio: Dan Wahpehpah, Jaimie Wheeler, and Jane Ayers hosts. Our focus is to bring you Native music (traditional and current), information and
education on issues revolving around indigenous rights, sovereignty, land use struggles for Native people, environmental issues affecting local tribes, cultural restoration and preservation,
information on our local grassroots organization, Red Earth Descendants (RED) and the events RED sponsors in our community.
First Nations Radio on KSKQ allows us to share our goals and vision as intertribal people with the ultimate vision of helping to create a healthy community and
environment for the next Seven Generations of life.
Greetings R.E.D. Community and Friends, We will begin having our weekly business/crafting meetings at Michael's house for this coming season
(2165 Hwy. 99, Ashland--"next door" to the Jackson Wellsprings) so that we can better facilitate the crafting we
plan to do for our Elder Honoring Giveaway at our next event, the Elder/Youth Conference in June.
Meetings will continue to take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.. We plan to combine organizational business with the making of Giveaway items.
No crafting experience necessary! We plan and learn as we go. The Elder/Youth Conference is set for June 20-23, tentatively (and most likely)
at EarthTeach Forest Park again this year. Since this is a 4 day event, it is BIG and quite involved. We can use ALL the help you are willing to give.
The crafting we'll be doing at weekly meetings will be part of a big Giveaway to elders, youth and special helpers at this conference.
In the tradition of Giveaway, we cherish this process of making things for the People. It is a big honor.
Thank you for being part of this community. Blessings, Jaimie

Greetings R.E.D. Community,
A little change of plans this first Saturday in June. . .we are making the unprecedented decision to
cancel the Social (which would be this Saturday, June 7) since it takes place at the same time as the
Veteran's Pow Wow at the V.A. Domiciliary in White
City/Eagle Point. We've NEVER in two years
canceled our monthly potluck, but since most of us want to honor the Veterans and attend this Pow Wow,
we are "moving" the Social to the Pow Wow. There will be an afternoon and evening session and we'll be out there!
Also, we have a few more Wednesday organizational/crafting meetings before Elder/Youth
Conference (June 19-22). This week's meeting (June 4, 6:30 p.m. at Michael's) will focus on kitchen
organization. Mary Ann, who has graciously stepped in as head kitchen woman, will be there and we'll
go over all kitchen details--so if you've signed up to help in the kitchen or if you'd like to step in and
help, we'd appreciate your coming to this meeting. We'll meet for the usual
Wednesday meetings June 4 and June 11 and then it's time to set up camp on June 18/19.
Thank you and many blessings!
Jaimie

Special Letter to our members and supporters of KSKQ.

Dear Community Radio Supporters!

KSKQ-LP, 94.9 FM, is very pleased to announce that we are broadcasting over the air at last! Right now if you live in the southern part of Ashland, you should be hearing us loud and clear. We still have a few technical and FCC challenges to overcome in order to expand the signal, but we’ve got our engineers working on that and expect the issues to be resolved in the next 2 weeks.

In order to reach all of Ashland and beyond, we need your financial support. In the last six months, we also applied for a full-power non-commercial educational license and we have doubled the number of producers who broadcast regular LIVE on-air programming at the station. Take a look at our website, www.kskq.org, for our weekly schedule. View a full description of our daily programming and listen to us live via the internet.

Did you know that we’ve been streaming our radio content over the internet continually for the last three years? We’re very proud of that accomplishment! We must be able to reach all of Ashland over the airwaves before we can campaign for business underwriters; therefore financial support from people like you, who have donated in the past, is very important.

We recently mailed out this letter, with our first printed monthly schedule and donations are starting to trickle in. Also in this letter was enclosed, an envelope that outlines several donation options. All contributions are tax-deductible through our parent organization, the Multicultural Association of Southern Oregon, http://www.mcaso.org a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

We also offer underwriting opportunities for your business on our website and in our weekly electronic newsletter,
KSKQ This Week, which goes out to over 800 local people, and is marketed to 7000 possible readers.

We encourage you to come down to the station at 330 E. Hersey #2, in Ashland, to see how radio is made—and even to envision your own show, or just volunteer to help out.

This is community radio, after all, giving regular folks access to the airwaves! Thank you for your past and continued support. Tune in to KSKQ-LP, 94.9 FM or on the web @ www.kskq.org

Sincerely, KSKQ Permanent Steering Committee
